"Comedy as a Second Language" at Kabin Bar & Lounge is one of the longest-running and widely-heralded NYC downtown comedy shows. Every Thursday night since June 2005 Sean Patton & Chesley Calloway have hosted countless standup comedians in the intimate back room of this rowdy East Village dive bar. One of the primary reasons comics--both up-and-coming & much-credited vets alike--insist CSL at Kabin is their favorite show is because of its audiences: they're typically hip, young, buzzed & looking to laugh and only inches away from the performers. Thanks to the warmth of its hosts & the strength of the lineups , the always-packed room ends up conveying a sense of coziness & the shows oftentimes provide that "only-in-New York" magical feeling. Consistency & quality with neither cover nor drink minimum, plus a great hang afterward for comics swinging by after every other show in the city, that's how CSL earned TimeOut New York's "Best Independent Standup Showcase" in 2011 and continues to draw great comics and strong crowds every Thursday evening.
